It's time to wrap up summer activities and start organizing for the school year ahead!
I know I'm in the process of setting up my classroom materials for the new school year. My aim will be to bring some fresh, fun activities into the Speech Therapy room with me this year. It can be difficult for some students to transition from the looser structures of summertime to the daily routines of the school year. Here are three tips to help make the transition back to school smoother for both you and your kids: 1. Bring back your morning routines first. If there's a difference between the summer schedule and the school year schedule, now is the time to move back to your school year schedule, even if students are not back in classes just yet. Have your regular breakfast, and get-ready routine before returning to anything else that's planned for the day. 2. Set aside time to read stories or look at books together. No matter the age level or reading ability of your child, they can benefit from a short period of structured activity with you before going back into a classroom learning environment. 3. Make a plan together. Some children experience a degree of anxiety before returning to the classroom each year. It can be helpful to go over the teacher's name, drive by the school, or review what the days will look like when they return to school. This helps prepare your child to return to the school environment and relieves the stress that unanswered questions can create. Best of luck throughout the school year! I can't wait to meet all my Speech therapy students this year. |
